16-year-old Kyle Giersdorf, who goes by the online handle “Bugha”, topped the singles leaderboard at last weekend’s Fortnite World Cup, competing against 100 other competitors at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City.
Before qualifying for the #FortniteWorldCup in April, @bugha’s mom got him a Wawa sandwich and a Gatorade, a tradition for the 16 year old before big games.
On Sunday, the Philadelphian broke that tradition, but it didn’t matter. He won $3 million. https://t.co/1on8KfUeOX

Two players going by “Nyrhox” and “Aqua” won the doubles bracket, taking home $1.5 million each.
Video game competitions, or ‘esports’, have become a billion-dollar industry in recent years.
