“Fluffernutter”, “Wiener Roast”: New Dictionary Food Terms Highlight Pandemic Eating

You might be happy to know that food terms, “Fluffernutter”, and “Wiener Roast”, have officially been added to the dictionary. Or you might be surprised that they weren’t already in there.

Merriam-Webster has revealed that 455 new words have been added to Merriam-Webster.com, which most of the new entries are food-related words/terms that surfaced during the pandemic.

Here are some of the new food related entries:

Horchata

Chicharron

Goetta

Air Fryer

Ghost Kitchen

Curbside pickup/curbside delivery

Wiener Roast

Dine-in

Flash Freeze

Carnitas

Street food

Tuile

Baking chocolate

Everything (as in the seasoning)
